Catholic Charities CEO Resigns
After much contemplation and prayer, Catholic Charities CEO Jason Christensen has tendered his resignation. As many of you know, this summer, Mr. Christensen had been participating in the Cycling for Change (C4C) cross-country bike ride to bring awareness to the issue of poverty with 11 other riders. They passed through Colorado Springs in early July, when Catholic Charities hosted the Freedom from Poverty Community Celebration.
Four weeks ago, Mr. Christensen took a break from the ride due to health and personal issues. He said, “Getting my health in order … was much needed. Being diabetic presents an array of challenges when particating in endurance-type sports. … Secondly and most importantly – is the care of my family.” As a result of that break, he has decided to resign his post as President and CEO of Catholic Charities of Central Colorado.
While Mr. Christensen participated in the C4C bike ride this summer, Monsignor Don Dunn assumed the role of Acting President and CEO. He will continue in this post until Labor Day. At that time, Catholic Charities will announce the appointment of an interim CEO, and will immediately launch a national search, led by the Catholic Charities Board of Directors, to find a new President and CEO.
During Mr. Christensen’s tenure, the New Marian House was built, a family counseling program within Life Connections was conceived and implemented, and more individuals and families were served throughout most of Catholic Charities programs than ever before, primarily due to the increased need as a result of the economic situation. Mr. Christensen said, “It has been a pleasure working for Catholic Charities and I shall especially appreciate the staff and the people we served. The New Marian House project was an incredible effort that has become a shining example of the goodness of Colorado Springs and what the Church has done for the least among us.”
We thank Mr. Christensen for his service with Catholic Charities, and wish him much success in future endeavors.
